Viticulture – Wine making:
Originating from Iconio in Asia Minor (Micra Asia) , Koniaros (also known as Koniariko) has been established in the vineyards of Serres for more than 100 years. This rare variety has been preserved by visionary growers who, in small vineyard plots, carry forward the tradition of generations.
Careful berry-by-berry hand selection. Vinification takes place in new open 225-litre barrels. The wine matures for 18 months in barrel and is bottled unfiltered. Long term bottle ageing of 7+ years before release.
Tasting notes:
A complex nose with aromas of black and dense red fruits, complemented by an appealing spicy and herbal character. The bouquet unfolds slowly and steadily, as with great red wines, and decanting is recommended.
Full-bodied and structured on the palate, with a silky texture and excellent tannins.
Spicy notes of pepper and cinnamon on the finish, followed by a long, persistent aftertaste.
Food Matching:
It pairs perfectly with beef cuts and aged graviera or yellow cheeses.
