This wine is produced from the renowned white indigenous Assyrtiko variety. The grapes are exclusively grown in Therassia using the traditional ‘kouloura’ method with low grape yield per hectare.
Vineyards: Sourced from carefully chosen vineyard plots in the iconic villages of Riva, Potamos, Agrilia, Manolas
Climate: Mediterranean, with mild winters and warm summers, tempered by sea breezes
Soils: Large amount of pumice stone and volcanic ash pumice. Therasia consists of hard silicates (Feldspars and
Hornblende) with a silic acid content of the order of 67%. All the vineyards are arid and the rainfall is averaged from
200-250mm. In the last years below 150mm.
Altitude: 200 – 250m
Viticulture: Ungrafted vines, up to 80 years old, trained using the traditional ‘kouloura’ method — a unique basket-
shaped pruning technique
Vinification: 60% of the wine was vinified in a stainless-steel tank and the other 40% in French oak barrels of 2nd and 3rd use and remained there with the lees (battonage) for 4 months. The temperature of the fermentation was 16 – 18 C, both in tanks and in barrels.
Attractive pale straw in color, distinctive nose with impressions of white flesh and tropical fruits, scents of chamomile, thyme and oregano. Full, oily rich taste with a good balance of alcohol and acidity. Slightly salty, and mineral on the palate adding a well-balanced and long finish. Its aromatic complexity opens up over time in the glass.
The wine is best served chilled at 13°C and will age well for 5 to 10 years.
